If this and my last entry are anything to go by, livejournal in the year twenty-aught-six is going to be very facial hair-centric.
( Chopping it down to size ... )
EDIT: Err I uploaded the pictures to Geocities and accidently viewed them too many times, so they won't appear for a bit. But come back when they do ...

Today I was up early and I went into the Twin Donut Shop (Ben & Biddle: that one near where we waited for the bus that I said looks awesome but I'm never up earlier enough in the morning to actually go in) and I saw four or five old guys sitting around a table drinking coffee, just as I had hoped. One of them was looking at a newspaper and saying, "Russia ... Romania ... Lithuania ... ".
I don't know what he was talking about, but I really hope it was "those goddam commies". I really do.

So Jeremy, Greg, Joe, & Dhebi came up to Boston for about a week. No particular shenanigans to report ... it was just weird/hilarious coming back to my apartment after work and finding those kids in my living room drinking Genesee and playing Mega Man 3.
I thought and I thought and I thought and I realized I don't have anything else to say. Later, kids.

Your nervous twitch registers on the Richter scale. Should you decide to defuse a bomb, don't worry about which wire to cut. You will always choose the right one. If someone says "I'll be right back", they won't. However if you are overweight, your mascara will run and your lipstick will smear. Interviewee wore a Walkman, explaining that she could listen to the interviewer and the music at the same time. The insurance was invalid for the invalid. All of which will give their captives at least 20 minutes to escape. "I know this is off the subject, but will you marry me?" The wind was too strong to wind the sail. To Annie and Rachel,
I'm so sorry. I can't believe what sort of change the passing of those so close to you is going to make in your life, but I can say that if you want to think aloud while you're trying to understand it, I'll listen.
And Annie, I apologize for when I last spoke with you. I didn't know what to say, so in classic "Josh being an ASS" fashion, I said nothing, which is not what one should do when someone has just lost someone so close. I will call you soon.
Rest In Peace,
Anna Marie Nelson Dr. Dale Pokorney

ONE: If you are not registered to vote and you are of voting age, you suck.
TWO: If you are registered and do not vote today, you suck more.
GO VOTE, YOU ASSHOLES. I'M NOT FUCKING AROUND. I ALREADY THREATENED TO KICK MY SISTER'S TEETH IN IF SHE DIDN'T VOTE, SO THINK OF WHAT I'LL DO TO YOU.
There. I had to get that out of the way.
I'm not even going to bother ranting about who to vote for, because I'd like to think you're all smart enough to figure that one out yourselves.

I'm not into sports or anything, but I consider the Red Sox beating the Yankees in Game 7 (in New York) after being down 0-3 games to head to the World Series "damning the man", so, what the hell ...

Wayne, Neal, & I decided this past Wednesday to meet up on my lunch break the next day to find some good eats in Harvard Square. Wayne doesn't live in town any more and Neal (and Kristen) are on their way to move to California, so I thought I'd be a good guy and treat.
Problem was, they overslept and didn't show, so I was forced to find somewhere to eat by myself.
I didn't have any cash on me, so I went into a sandwich shop that I thought took debit cards. I ordered my food (kielbasa sandwich, mind you) then tried paying with my debit card, and was promptly told they only took cash. I fumbled around for a minute, then said I'd have to run to an ATM to take out some money.
Then some guy who was waiting for his order to come up said, "Don't worry about it," and paid for my food.
Talk about karma, man.
Oh yeah, and the kielbasa sandwich was awesome.

For those of you who don't know, my old roommate Wayne moved out of Boston in January so he could get a gig working at a studio in western MA. He had friends who took him in and let him live on the couch so he had somewhere to live close to the studio. He was living with Merlin, Steve, Eric, Adam, and Amy ... all very cool people who have helped make my time in Massachusetts the awesome experience it has been thus far. Wayne lived in the upper level of this house with Merlin, Steve, & Eric, with Adam and Amy downstairs. They rocked it proper.
For those of you who don't know, someone's laptop power supply sparked and that house CAUGHT ON FIRE a few days ago and, as the fire started under the couch where Wayne resided, COMPLETELY DESTROYED every last possession Wayne had there, with massive smoke and water damage to the entire place. For Wayne, this includes two computers (one brand new he'd purchased for work), all of his clothes, almost all of his DVDs, and ALL OF HIS GUITARS. The entire house is now unliveable. Did I mention yet that none of them had renter's insurance?
I came to MA without knowing a soul and these kids have helped shape my world here.
So click on the the Donate button and show me what you got! Every last penny is going straight to Wayne & the Westfield crew. I know everyone is poor, but even at my worst I could spare five bucks for something like this.
If you don't have PayPal, sign up. If for whatever reason you can't and still want to help out, call or e-mail me.
EDIT: This donation box can't accept credit or debit card donations since my PayPal is not a "business" account (sorry, Kenny), which charges fees and crap for credit/debit cards. It has to be from a bank account or PayPal balance. You can transfer funds from your bank account to PayPal, it just takes a few days to go through.
EDIT (12-04-04): The PayPal button is no longer active.

time for the monthly update! let's see ...
sarah & i went to southern california for a little over a week. my favorite day was probably when we went to the shields date garden and the joshua tree national park. -- the shields date garden sounds boring -- a date farm that produces most of the dates in the united states -- BUT!! they had the most awesomest badass campy gift shop that probably hasn't changed much since the 50s or 60s (i got a bitchin mug), plus they run a video called "the romance & sex life of the date". yeah, i know you're jealous ... -- the joshua tree nat'l park is, at first, not so impressive. i mean, it IS kind of in the middle of the desert. but the scenery is awesome and it would be a great place to hike, assuming you had a lot of water and some hiking boots (i ain't cool with scorpions and crap eating my ankles). the best part about it was key's view (which if you're ever there, go see it) -- it's about a mile up, and you can see down over the mountains you're on, across a valley, more mountains on the other side ... absolutely fucking amazing view. -- we did other stuff in california, too. stop being a slackass and call me or something, and we'll talk about it. i spend enough time around a computer at my geeky job so i don't care to spend a lot of time "talking" on it, unless you have a mac/ichat (tom and kearns, i'm looking at you) and we can actually hear each other.
i saw fahrenheit 9/11 and supersize me recently. go see both, but if you can only catch one, go see michael moore's flick. on a semi-related note, my brother just keyed me into JohnKerryIsADoucheBagButImVotingForHimAnyway.com, which promises to be a good read ...

i won't bother trying to recount the last few weeks in full, but a few of the highlights have been:
-- my college commencement ceremony, where the guest speaker said, "screw the accounts. screw the lawyers. and screw wal-mart," and was greeted with immediate applause -- my brother started college two years before i did and went to a real school and also graduated on the same day -- going to the beach last sunday (72/sunny) and hitting the atlantic ocean for the first time since i've lived in new england -- seeing the Presidents of the United States of America & the Violent Femmes at the same show -- my sister graduated high school -- bought plane tickets for our trip to California -- dropped a check for first month's rent for a new place in september that's uber rad -- jumping out of a moving vehicle so we could push a car that had run out of gas the last 100 yards to the toll booth -- watching almost all of my Invader Zim dvd already ... twice ...
as a result of all that and more, i currently have a grand total of $16 to my name, too much coffee in me to be good, and a hanging, resounding distrust in my skills as a human being.

GOOD NEWS: the new KsE record hit the streets today -- kudos to all involved.
\m/ ROCK ON BIG KRUPS FOR THE WAYNGINEERING CREDIT \m/
they definitely make up for the so-so name of the record by making the title track so good. give it up for divebombs!
the worst part about this record was hearing that THE COWBELL DIDN'T MAKE THE FINAL CUT!!?! WHAT THE HELL, GUYS?!
BAD BAD BAD NEWS: screeching weasel cancelled their summer tour, saying that they might do it in the fall. looks like i'll still have some things left to do before i can die happy.

a week or two ago, i happened to stumble across the fact that From A Second Story Window would be playing at bill's bar in boston this past monday. i thought it might be rad to see some hometown kids play a show in boston and maybe see if they could hang out for the night if they didn't have a gig the next day. so i gave joe a call on sunday to see what was up, and he tells me, "oh jeremy's with us ... he's doing the merch ... " JEREMY MOTHERFUCKING RADU.
which, as you can see, got me PUMPED ...
joe told me he'd put me on the list so i wouldn't have to pay to drop by and say howthefuck'sitgoing (he ended up coming through with the stellar "guest +1" for myself and sarah).
i was standing outside in the cold when they arrived. jeremy, always one step ahead of everyone, was wearing mesh shorts. so a while later FASSW takes the stage, lacking their lead singer because he's "in an anger manangement class somewhere", according to the stand-in vocalist. regardless, they played a pretty solid set. the whole time i was trying to talk to jeremy in the 45 seconds in between songs when conversation wasn't impossible. we didn't get to say a whole lot, but i was still glad we had the chance to make a few dumb jokes and heckle each other a bit.
i told him that chokindownember and xbenx both have tentative plans (not necessarily coinciding) to come up to boston at some point this summer, which meant that he should, too. hopefully he'll take one of them up on it.
in other "awesome kids coming to visit" news, wayne is coming up tomorrow. and mr. jo-al, of course. my liver has been resting and i think it's up to the challenge. i just wish my wallet was, too ... everytime joel is here i'm totally broke, meaning i will probably miss going to roastbeef redneck's yet again. yeah, life is hard ...
